Xeomin® in Bucks County, PA, and Hunterdon County, NJ

What Is Xeomin®?

Xeomin® is similar to Botox® and Dysport® in that it is an injectable filler made from botulinum toxin type A, which is a neurotoxin. Injected under the skin, it can soften lines and wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes and mouth. Xeomin® is different than the other injectables because its blend of ingredients give it much more staying power. Studies suggest that multiple uses may make permanent changes in the patient’s skin.

Why Should I Consider Xeomin®?

Typically, the wrinkles that are found below the cheeks come about as skin grows lax and loses the layer of subcutaneous fat. In contrast, lines found on the forehead and around the eyes tend to be a byproduct of muscle contractions. Years of smiling, laughing and squinting cause your muscles to permanently contract. When you inject Xeomin® into the face, it blocks the chemical reactions that make muscles grow rigid.
Recently approved by the FDA to combat the signs of aging and treat the same issues as Botox®, many studies show that Xeomin® has the potential to do even more than Botox® when it comes to combating wrinkles and fine lines.

The Xeomin® Procedure

A Xeomin® treatment starts with cleansing the skin and marking the places that will be injected with the filler. The first injection spot is between the client’s eyebrows. Next, it is injected into the glabellar muscles that lie just under the skin. It takes at least a week for results to be noticeable. Once the initial week has passed, the facial muscles should relax, causing wrinkles to smooth out. The results should last from four to six months.

Unlike the other popular injectable fillers, there are no additives in Xeomin®. Injecting any kind of substance that is foreign to the body signals your system to produce antibodies for the purpose of keeping you safe from damage. This can cause your body to have an allergic reaction, but with no additives in Xeomin®, the risk of such a reaction is substantially lowered. Not only does this produce a better-looking outcome, it has been found that most clients can repeat the procedure several times before it starts to lose its effectiveness.

Am I A Good Candidate For Xeomin®?

While Xeomin® is useful in treating many different cosmetic problems, most clients first use it to reduce frown lines that begin developing on their forehead. It can also be used to treat the involuntary eyelid twitching known as blepharospasm and cervical dystonia, which is a condition that causes spastic twists of the neck and head.

Xeomin® is not a twin product with Botox®. There are some small differences, so it is important to consult with your doctor in order to choose the injectable treatment that is right for you. If you think you would like to try a Xeomin® injection, schedule a consultation with Dr. Buinewicz of Buinewicz Plastic Surgery and learn more about what this particular product can do. Take the time to research the product and ask any questions that you may have about getting a dermal injection.

How Long Will My Xeomin® Procedure Last?

The length of the procedure will vary from patient to patient and is determined by the amount of Xeomin® required. Most patients find that the entire procedure takes less than 30 minutes, which is about the same amount of time it would take for any other dermal filler.

What Can I Expect After The Xeomin® Procedure?

The most common side effects include redness and inflammation at the injection sites. A few rare times, clients have experienced visual impairment for a few hours after treatment.

The results of treatment are not immediate. Unlike other fillers that immediately plump the skin, it takes about a week to see the results of Xeomin®. You can have another treatment as soon as the signs of aging return. If you use Xeomin® too often, you run the risk that it will stop being effective. It is important to keep this in mind as you plan your treatment calendar.

What Must I Do After The Xeomin® Procedure?

  • It is important to use your treated muscles as soon as you have had the injections. You can do this by frowning, smiling, or making other expressions that exercise your facial muscles.
  • You need to stay upright for the first hour following the procedure. Too much head movement can cause running or pulling, which causes the injected Xeomin® to shift towards unwanted places on your face.
  • It is imperative that you do not participate in any kind of exercise for at least 48 hours. Even activities that don’t seem very strenuous can do damage to your newly revitalized face.
  • If you wear makeup, learn to apply it with gentle upwards strokes when you cover your forehead and light downward strokes when you apply to your cheeks.
  • Doctors recommend that you supplement your healing routine with arnica or bromelain tablets. These are both used to lessen bruising. If you choose to supplement with arnica, you can start taking them before the procedure. 500 mg of bromelain needs to be taken two times a day.
  • Other than acetaminophen, you can’t take any painkillers and alcohol is off limits directly following the procedure. The doctor will also tell you to avoid eating foods that are high in vitamin E.

How Soon Can I Return To Work After Xeomin® Treatment?

Most clients are able to return to work the day following their procedure. If there is any residual redness, it can easily be covered with a little makeup.

How Much Does Xeomin® Cost?

The cost of Xeomin® compares with Botox® and Dysport® treatments. We also offer several financing plans and accept cash, checks and all major credit cards as a form of payment. Our patient coordinator will work with you to choose a payment plan that fits your budget.
