What is Varicose Vein Treatment?
Do you want to finally get real relief from all of the swelling, cramps and leg heaviness brought on by the problem of varicose veins? Do you want to enjoy an improvement in your general health while regaining the confidence to bare your legs again? If it is truly time for you to say goodbye to uncomfortable - and not to mention unfashionable - compression stockings, and to start noticing an improved appearance of your legs, then you can benefit from varicose vein treatment at Buinewicz Plastic Surgery with board-certified family physician Dr. Anna Buinewicz. Varicose veins are the result of venous insufficiency, which is, unfortunately, an altogether too common condition resulting from decreased blood flow from your leg veins back up to your heart, with the result being that there is a pooling of blood in the veins. Normally, one-way valves in your veins keep the blood flowing toward the heart—against the force of gravity, however, when these valves don't perform their function, then blood can flow backwards or reflux. This reflux results in what is known as venous insufficiency, a very common condition that results in the pooling of blood in the veins, causing varicose veins symptoms to occur.
What are the Benefits of Varicose Vein Treatment?
Sclerotherapy is an advanced, effective and minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins. During your treatment sessions, the sclerosant irritates the vein wall and causes it to close off. Your body then automatically reroutes the blood to other nearby veins and the diseased vein turns to scar tissue that is reabsorbed over the next few weeks, within a short time following your treatment.

What is the Procedure for Varicose Vein Treatment?
Most sclerotherapy sessions take less than an hour to perform and allow you to return to your daily routine immediately afterward. After utilizing an ultrasound machine or a vein illumination light to precisely guide each sclerosant injection into your varicose veins, we then use a very small needle to inject the sclerosant into the veins. After the injections are finished, a special cream is massaged into the treated area to increase the coverage of the sclerosant, improving its overall effect and soothing your legs. We recommend no heavy lifting of over 30 pounds and no heavy physical aerobic activities for 48 hours afterward, but lots of walking is highly recommended. Most patients return to their full normal activities after about 48 hours.
