Just like the decision to start a family, the decision to undergo a mommy makeover should be carefully considered. The best candidates for this procedure are women who are at or near their ideal weight but may have some post-pregnancy imperfections they want to correct. Potential candidates should postpone their mommy makeover until they are done with childbearing because additional pregnancies could compromise the results. Due to this important factor, most women in the 30s to 40s age range undergo mommy makeovers.
What Is a Mommy Makeover?
A combination of plastic surgery procedures performed simultaneously to restore a woman’s body to its pre-pregnancy appearance. Sagging breasts, lax abdominal muscles and skin, and stretch marks, are some of the physical changes caused by pregnancy that a mommy makeover can correct.
We recommend letting the body heal for three to six months after your last delivery before undergoing body contouring surgery. You’ll also need to have stopped breastfeeding, so we can evaluate the true size and position of your breasts.
During a mommy makeover procedure, Dr. Brian Buinewicz uses a unique combination of procedures to firm and lift sagging breasts, remove stretch marks, and tighten and tone the midsection.
The mommy makeover is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. Dr. Buinewicz customizes his approach to this surgery according to each woman’s physical anatomy and desired outcome. The mommy makeover may include any of the following cosmetic treatments:
- Restoring height, volume, and shape to sagging breasts that have become deflated due to pregnancy and lactation.
- Removing loose abdominal skin and stretch marks.
- Toning and tightening the abdominal region following pregnancy and childbirth.
- Slimming and contouring the waistline.
- Removing stubborn, sagging fat deposits from areas of the body.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
The single recovery period is perhaps the greatest advantage of addressing multiple problem areas at once during the mommy makeover. Dr. Buinewicz’s gentle approach allows mommy makeover patients to resume their normal activities in as little as one to two weeks after their surgery. Keep in mind, the more invasive the procedures, the more recovery time necessary.
You’ll receive a detailed list of post-operative care instructions that you must follow closely to optimize the healing process and the results of your procedure.
Mild soreness, swelling, and discomfort are normal side effects most mommy makeover patients experience in the days following their surgery. While these symptoms usually subside within a few days, Dr. Buinewicz will prescribe post-surgical compression garments for you to wear following surgery. These garments will minimize inflammation and discomfort while supporting your new shape.
