What is Sculptra®?
When we are younger, our bodies produce a number of vital proteins that keep our skin firm and toned. Unfortunately, that changes as we grow older, and our skin becomes damaged from harsh beauty products and years of direct sunlight. Sculptra® is an FDA-approved dermal filler that adds volume to a patient’s face, hydrates the skin, and stimulates the production of proteins, such as collagen and elastin. This unique product is designed to soften fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face.
Benefits of Sculptra®
Many popular injectables do nothing more than add volume to a patient’s face, and that is why the results rarely last for more than a few months. Sculptra® patients often enjoy long-lasting results because of the two-stage approach to treating their fine lines and wrinkles. Within days of the first injections, the patient’s body will begin producing extra collagen and elastin. Their skin will naturally heal itself and quickly begin to erase the lines and wrinkles. The biggest benefit of Sculptra® is the fact that the results often last for two years or longer. These results can be compared to similar dermal fillers that generally last for less than six months.
Who is a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?
This product will not drastically alter your appearance like many other cosmetic procedures. Instead, it enhances your natural features by restoring volume to your face and softening wrinkles. Most healthy adults who have begun to notice age-related cosmetic issues, such as facial wrinkles, will make excellent candidates for Sculptra®. The ideal patient will also have realistic expectations regarding what this product can and cannot do.
How Should I Prepare for Sculptra®?
Unlike invasive procedures, such as lifts and tucks, almost no preparations need to be made before your appointment. We simply ask our patients to avoid alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) in the days leading up to their treatment to prevent excessive bruising and swelling. During your initial consultation, you should also notify your clinician of any prescription medications or supplements you are currently taking. In some cases, these products can interfere with the procedure or the results.
How is Sculptra® Administered?
In order to minimize any discomfort you might feel, your clinician will clean your face and then apply a topical anesthetic. After your face is completely numb, the clinician will begin the process of injecting units of Sculptra® just below the surface of your skin near the lines and wrinkles. The total length of your procedure is determined by how many units of Sculptra® are needed.
Most of these sessions can be carried out in just 30 minutes, and you should notice the results as soon as you walk out of our office. Many of our patients are happy with the results after a single treatment session, but you might benefit from additional injections in the following weeks if you would like more dramatic results. The most common side effects of Sculptra® include minor swelling and redness near the injection sites. Patients should immediately contact our office if these issues do not disappear within two or three days of the injections.

Sculptra® often produces amazing results on its own, but it can also be combined with other injectables depending on the patient’s cosmetic goals. That is why it is so important to schedule a one-on-one appointment with our clinician to discuss exactly what you would like to achieve with your treatment. During the consultation, your clinician will fully explain how Sculptra® and all of our other injectables work. Some of these products are effective at treating deep folds, while others work well on fine lines. Combination treatments can be carried out on the same day or scheduled two to three weeks apart.
