Are You a Candidate for CoolSculpting®?
The ideal candidate for CoolSculpting® is in general good health and maintains a healthy weight. They tend to suffer from small localized fat deposits that don’t respond to dieting or exercise programs. It is especially helpful for women who want to re-sculpt their body after pregnancy.
How does CoolSculpting® work?
CoolSculpting® uses cryolipolysis, a process which freezes and then kills fat cells. The cells in your body are temperature sensitive, and the CoolSculpting® machine cools fat cells to a specified temperature, leaving surrounding cells unharmed.
The CoolSculpting® Procedure
Before the procedure begins, Dr. Buinewicz will make sure that you are in a comfortable position before applying a suction device that will begin the cooling process. The cold temperature is above freezing, but cold enough to destroy fat cells by numbing them.
The machine is so precise that it is able to accomplish this freezing without harming the surrounding cells. Cryolipolysis, used by CoolSculpting®, is a noninvasive technique that can shape your body by targeting specific fat cells in your body.
As the treatment is being conducted a process called apoptosis is started in the fat cells. This results in their self-destruction and natural removal from the body over the next several months.
The treatment takes approximately an hour and one treatment can actually eliminate 20 percent or more of the fat located in the targeted treatment area. Many people end up having more than one treatment in order to achieve the best possible results.
CoolSculpting® Recovery and Results
One of the best things about CoolSculpting® is that it does not require downtime. A few patients experience mild pain, slight redness or light bruising for the first few days.
CoolSculpting® results tend to be visible within two to four months. CoolSculpting® removes approximately one to one and a half inches from the treatment area. It does not provide the dramatic results of liposuction, but it is a noninvasive way to treat small bulges of fat that don’t respond to diet or exercise.
